Why we exist: We are trying to help others know about Anything Rural because we feel there is a gap. In the world of rural land development/care—where you’re dealing with everything from off-grid solar and septic systems to complex zoning and infrastructure—the best information may be found in a search engine, but it is comprised of scattered links and no human confirmation. We wanted one place where information can be traded between neighbors who need to do the work and those who have already done the work. We created this platform to be that shared resource: a place for straightforward, maybe no-nonsense technical guidance for those of us living and building a set distance from a fenceline.
Our mission: Knowing about Anything Rural isn’t so much a social network as it is a dynamic knowledge base. Our focus is on the practicalities of rural life: Critter or varmint control, livestock care, children’s education and care, code-compliant electrical projects, efficient water management, smart land development, and the DIY spirit that keeps a property running. We value safety, self-reliance, and the shared expertise that comes from hands-on experience. There is so much about AnythingRural, that we need your help! Please join the forum!!.
How to connect: We’ve kept this space open to grow and encompass all aspects of anything rural, while developing a forum where focus can be on the people, the life, the land and the build – whatever comes up. We know that rural life can be a social event as well, with its own issues Ingress and egress, fire hazards, shared responsibilities, even helping one another when needed. If you have a project story to share, a technical question that needs a fresh pair of eyes, or you just want to introduce yourself to your fellow community members, we invite you to grab a seat over at Coffee & Chat. That’s where the dialogue happens.
About Our Rural Community: The Best Way to Connect
Knowing about Anything Rural is really knowing about all of us. This online rural community is built for those of us who understand that country life comes with its own unique set of rewards and hands-on challenges. Many of us have questions, and many of us have answers that, at times, have been hard-earned by doing things wrong one or more times. Once something works, that solution can save others a lot of aggravation.
When someone posts a specific question here—and it is further shared, even what has worked for them on their own properties—we create a common space where practical, real-world knowledge about living in the country becomes easier to find and easier to use. You cannot watch a video and ask the person a question about some aspect of what was done, or introduce a unique situation to it and solicit a workaround – you can in here. Together, we help each other take care of what we must, especially when we’re handling it where we are, out in the rurals.
This is all about our rural community.
Living the Rural Life
Life in rural places is different.
The land and the passing seasons teach and shape us in ways city living may never do. Out here, the work never really stops. Whether we are managing the land itself, raising livestock, fixing aging equipment, building new structures as the need(s) arise, or simply maintaining the infrastructure already in place, day-to-day living takes on a much busier schedule. We naturally become more self-reliant because we have to, but we also quickly find that reliable answers and practical solutions aren’t always easy to come by. True experience matters out here—and sharing that experience is what helps all of us do a little better, to get something cared fo r that may have otherwise gone lacking.
