Right of way on private property costs

We had no idea that in the multitude of pages for purchasing our small rural property that little dashed lines indicated right of way ownership that we must maintain. We have to cross a bridge. The disclosure is based on “ignorance of the law is no excuse” and we were told via the little lines. We sued the original owner, the attorney said we would win but that it would be pointless, we would never collect and we would still have to pay the attorney. He advised we just pay to maintain…Our real estate person should have at least clued us in..
